Students Bid on Lost and Found
31 May 2006
More than 40 people went to the University Park for the Annual Lost and Found Auction held by the Games Room and Commercial Services on Thursday.
The Lost and Found Auction, which began around the early 1970s, is an event where different items left in the Lost and Found for more than a six-month period are auctioned off at the end of the academic school year.
"We try to make the auction happen every year in the spring," said Tim Shoemaker, the coordinator of the Games Room and Commercial Services.
The auction has been a relatively successful event in the past and this year was no different.
The auction had a staff member announcing items in miscellaneous bags, which contained sunglasses to cell phones to notebooks and more.
"It was very cool," said second-year animal science student Vanessa Tavera, who walked by and heard announcer Dave Johnson, director of Judicial Affairs. "He is so funny. I liked it a lot."
The bidding started off as low as $1 for a Walkman, an empty wallet and an old textbook.
"It's a lot cheaper than you can find anywhere else," said Tavera. "Also, it is kind of fun to bid on things."
